My child has difficulty telling me what he wants or needs.  Others can’t understand him/her.  He just won’t eat….anything.  He chokes every time he tries to eat something.  The Dr. said my child needs speech therapy or feeding therapy….what???

Our Speech Language Pathology Team

AMBER SAMPSON, SLP

Amber Sampson recently completed her Master's Degree to become a Speech Language Pathologist.  She also has a bachelor's degree in Social Work and in Communication Disorders.  She has experience in the field of social work, as well as speech therapy experience in the school, hospital, and in-home settings.  She has four children and loves children of all ages.  She speaks Spanish and has lived in Arizona for 13 years.

Penny Turner-Bertsche, SLPA

Penny received her Bachelor's degree in Speech Language Pathology, from Illinois State University,  over 25 years ago. Since that time, she has worked in a variety of settings, including out-patient pediatric clinics, public schools, and home health. Penny is originally from the midwest, but holds a Speech Language Pathology Assistant's license in the state of Arizona, as she and her family moved here in the summer of 2019. She feels her niche is with children of the younger population, as most of her career she has been serving children ages birth to six years old. Seeing the child as a "whole" person, not just someone needing speech services, allows her to support other needs the child may have and is the most optimal way to serve that child and their family. Penny uses a play-based approach as her method of treatment and her belief is that EVERY child is CAPABLE.

Kelsey Anselmo, C-SLPA

Kelsey graduated from Arizona State University with her Bachelor's in 2016 and began her career as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA). With the 2022 addition of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association assistants' program, she was credentialed as a Certified SLPA - "C-SLPA". She has been with Caring Hands since 2019. She feels her niche is with teens and adults and loves working on social and vocational skills.
